<span style="color: black; font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 16pt;">One More Year Under Our Belt

<span style="color: black; font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt;">We spent our second winter (2013/2014) in sunny Florida. We stayed in the TT (Thousand Trails) Orlando campground for at least half of the 4 total months we were in Florida. We love this campground, 867 total sites, 2 pools a nice hot tub and a lot of activity going on all of the time. Water volleyball every day at 1:00, bingo 2 nights a week, pickle ball every morning or <span style="color: black; font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt; mso-themecolor: text1;">lay by the pool and<span style="color: black; font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt;"> soak in the sun all day. While we were at Orlando TT’s this winter all of the kids came down for spring break. While they were visiting us we drove to “Daytona Bike Week”, Daytona beach and Fort Lauderdale beach. We also went to a baseball spring training game and spent a lot of time at the pool.

<span style="color: black; font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt;">

<span style="color: black; font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt;">Of course the weather was perfect. Daytona Bike Week was a blast, it’s motorcycles from one end of the town to the other.

Another place we stayed while in Florida was TT Peace River, it’s in Wauchula about an hour east of Sarasota. It is a nice park that is more like being in the country, we like the country feel so it feels very comfortable to us. It’s a smaller park than Orlando only 460 total sites with one pool and a hot tub and the town of Wauchula is only a couple of miles away.

Our trip to the Everglades was great. We went to the Keys for a couple of weeks and on our way back to Orlando we spent a week checking out the Florida Everglades. We stayed at Chokoloskee Island Resort & Marina on Chokoloskee Island just outside of Everglade City. We saw at least a hundred alligators, we ate alligator and went on an air boat ride. The whole area is protected federal land with park roads for alligator viewing and let me tell you they are everywhere.
We met some of the greatest people in all of our travels here in North Carolina. In some campgrounds the people staying there have a parade with their golf carts through the park. We spent a week in Washington at the Cherry Hill Campground. I would say Washington DC. was the highlight of our east coast trip. The museums and the historic landmarks are never-ending, we only spent a week in Washington but could have spent a month and still wouldn’t have seen everything we wanted to. If you haven’t been to Washington DC. you must add it to your list. Then we made a stop in Atlantic City, not a must see. Then to TT Hershey Pennsylvania, we loved this area and the campground. While in Hershey make sure you visit the site of the Battle Of Gettysburg it is a must see.

<span style="color: black; font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt;">Going back to February 1st and our trip to Jamaica with
the kids…The trip was amazing! The kids flew out of Minnesota and
we flew from Orlando. The only regret was Brandon (middle son 21 now) not being
able to join us because of a commitment he had back in Minnesota that he
couldn’t break. We stayed at Legends on the Beach in Negril. Legends on the
Beach is an all-inclusive hotel that has a sister hotel “Samsara” on the
cliffs. The weather was perfect every day; we went cliff jumping at the cliffs,
swam and laid at the beach a bunch. The highlight of our trip was on our last
day while snorkeling we saw a 6’ reef shark next to us, very scary but very
cool.

been to a NASCAR race and would highly recommend going to a race. The amount of
people at the race is mind boggling…185,000 people attended the race. We were
able to get into the Daytona Beach KOA for the 2 days of the race so we didn’t
have to drive very much that weekend during the race.
<span style="color: black; font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt;">The second week of March we pulled up stakes in Florida and dead
headed to Phoenix Arizona. It was kind of sad leaving Florida as we had such a
good time and simply loved our time in Florida, we will definitely be back next
winter.

<span style="color: black; font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt;">Six days of traveling from Florida stopping every night along the
way at a Passport America campgrounds or a casino. Lately we prefer to stay at
a Passport America campground for $10 or $15 a night vs. a Wal-Mart parking lot
or a truck stop. The problem with Wal-Mart is you end up going into the store
and spending $100. With the campgrounds we like that we can plug in for power
and are able to have the water hooked up to take a shower in the morning before
we head out. We plan the Casino stays on days that we have a full day of
traveling and if there isn’t a PA campground around. This way we don’t have to
worry about what time we pull in and we usually pull out early in the morning.

<span style="color: black; font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt;">Our destination Seyenna Vistas Rv Resort in Mesa Arizona for 1
month. The park was nice, great location close to Scottsdale and Phoenix. The
park is going through a transition from a trailer park to a full-fledged RV
Resort. Very nice pool and club house with a great fitness center. We found
that 90% of all the RV parks in the Arizona area are 55 and older parks which
makes it difficult to find a place to stay. While in Arizona we had to put our
big dog “Jack” to sleep. Jack was 14 years old and had been suffering from
diabetes. In Arizona they have a wonderful vet “Happy Endings” that comes to
you and performs the euthanasia. Very sad but there couldn’t have been a better
way. We will miss you Jack.

<span style="color: black; font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt;">On April 10th our nephew Edward and his wife Missy flew
in from Minneapolis to Phoenix to spend some time and travel with us. While
they were in Phoenix we took them to a couple of places we discovered while
being there, South Mountain, and Greasewood Flats are just a couple of the
highlights. Ed and Missy only spent 3 days with us in Phoenix and now we are
all heading to the Grand Canyon. We drove into Williams Arizona to the Grand
Canyon RV Park for 1 night. We parked the RV in Williams and drove into the
Grand Canyon (about an hour away from Williams) with the car for the day. None
of us have ever seen the Grand Canyon, we all were amazed at the beauty and the
majesty of the Canyon. The next day we headed to Laughlin Nevada to the
Riverside RV Park for 1 night. We all really liked Laughlin, it’s old school
Vegas with real nickel slots and lots of free drinks.
<span style="color: black; font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 16pt;">Viva Las Vegas

<span style="color: black; font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt;">The next day we headed to Las Vegas, Thousand Trails Las Vegas.
The park is a few miles from the strip and downtown with a nice pool, hot tub
and lounge. The park is kind of tight but what the heck you’re in Vegas. We
liked the down town/ Freemont area the best when it came to hitting the
casino’s. While in Vegas we visited a few TV shows that are on the History
channel, Pawn Stars, American Restoration and Kounts Kustoms were all very cool
to see in person. Ed and Missy have a friend that winters in Meadville Arizona,
we took a drive from LV to Meadville one day to check out Lake Mead and the
start/end of the Grand Canyon. The town of Meadville is very remote but there
is no shortage of great scenery. And you can’t go to Las Vegas without stopping
by the Hoover Dam. After their 10 days traveling with us Ed and Missy flew back
to Minnesota from Las Vegas, sad to see them go and it was really great
spending time with them.

<span style="color: black; font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt;">The first week of May we were at the beautiful Thousand Trails
Palm Springs Park in Palm Desert California, the temperatures here were in the
100’s every day. The first day we got to the campsite the temperature toped at
109* Actually at this park they close the park for the season on May 15th
as it gets way to hot here in the summer. This is a beautiful park, it was a
date orchard years ago, nice pool and well cared for grounds. A lot of snow-birds
winter here because the winters are very mild. Lots of beautiful landscaping in
the Palm Springs area and it seems like there is a golf course on every corner.
We left Palm Springs and headed to Thousand Trails Wilderness Lakes in Menifee,
CA for a 2 night stay. The park was nice with a beautiful fitness center and
pool. On the right side of the park is a feed lot that at times smells but it
didn’t seem to bother us, we stayed on the left side of the park. On our way to
San Diego California, Thousand Trails Pio Pico in Jamul, CA. We liked the park,
nice pool and hot tub. No Verizon cell service but they do have free internet.
This park is only about 30 miles from San Diego but is in the middle of
nowhere.

<span style="color: black; font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt;">While in the San Diego we had received some bad news, Laurie’s mom
(Carol) would be having a medical test in a week. Carol had been having
some unusual pains in her rib area, other than that she was in very good shape.
Laurie wanted to be with her mom for her test and thought we should head to
Minnesota. We have always said if we want/need to go back to Minnesota for any
reason it won’t be a problem for either of us. Four days on the road and we
made it back for Carol’s doctor’s appointment. The outcome was terrible, Carol
was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. We spent time with Carol at her house
before she left us after a very short fight with cancer. We will miss you so
much Carol..

<span style="color: black; font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt;">The remainder of the summer we spent time with the kids, family
and friends. We took the kids to a concert in Alpine Valley, Wisconsin to see
Jimmy Buffett and Jackson Brown. We also rented a huge pontoon on Lake
Minnetonka for a day of Minnesota summer boating fun. In our original plans we
planned on spending the month of August in Minnesota but now having spent 4
months in Minnesota this summer we will be changing next summer’s pans to
include at least a couple of months devoted to Minnesota and family and
friends. Minnesota is beautiful in the summer and being with family and friends
is priceless. Can’t wait until next summer.

a double door fridge and 2 chairs in the bedroom. The coach has only 6,000 miles
on it and is in like new condition. We also upgraded our toad with a 2013 Jeep

<span style="color: black; font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt;">On September 20th 2013 we are back on the road again,
our first stop Hidden Bluffs Resort in Spring Grove MN. As we are pulling into
the campground we noticed we had blown a rear axle seal and we won’t be going
anywhere until it gets fixed. The campground was very accommodating in letting
us fix it at our campsite. The only thing we hated about this campground is the
2 mile dirt road into the park. Last summer I vowed I would never go to a
campground on a dirt road, we had no idea of the dirt road, I hate dirt roads.
Back on the “paved” road after 4 days and on our way to Saint Louis, MO. We
stayed at the Casino Queen in East St. Louis IL. For 2 days. It’s a nice park
right across the river from the “Arch” the park is clean and has no amenities
but they do have lots of security. While in St. Louis we loved the Budweiser
Brewery tour and walking around near the Arch.

<span style="color: black; font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt;">All my life I’ve wanted to see Elvis Presley’s home at Graceland
in Memphis, Tennessee and we’re finally here. Staying 4 days at the Graceland
RV Park right across the road from Graceland is great. It’s a very nice park
with a heated pool, clean and secure. The Graceland tour is very well done and
worth the money, you go through Elvis’s house and airplanes on a self-guided
audio tour, we liked it a lot. We also made it to Beale Street a couple of
nights in downtown Memphis. Beale Street is a mini Bourbon Street with lots of
Elvis and Jazz music and bar-b-q food. We left Memphis and are staying at
Cherokee Landing in Saulsbury, TN a Thousand Trails park (about an hour and a
half east of Memphis for 2 weeks. This park is very large with a dozen other
people staying here. The pool is closed and there isn’t much to do in the area,
that’s alright with us as we want to get things organized and clean. We had a
nice campfire with the dozen people staying here the other night and really
enjoyed it.

<span style="color: black; font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt;">A lot has happened in the last year and it has made us even more
motivated to continue Full Time RVing. We love traveling and seeing the
country.

<span style="color: black; font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt;">We plan on spending most of the winter in Florida this year

December and January have been the best so far. We have some exciting news, we
have sold the 2 scooters and bought a car. When we were in Key West we
put our scooters on Craigslist to see if there was anybody interested in buying
them, we had a few calls but nothing was for sure. When we left Key West we
took the ad off Craigslist. A week after we got back to Orlando we received a
call from a guy in Key West willing to come up to Orlando and pay us twice what
our scooters were worth, seemed like a scam but

he showed up at our campground
and paid us cash for the scooters, hard to pass up. It was hard to see the
scooters go but we were able to find a nice car
that we can pull behind the coach. The car will certainly allow us more freedom
to visit more places without having to rent a car.
are <span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-font-size: 11.0pt; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-bidi;">so glad we ditched Texas and headed to Florida, the resort has 850 sites
with 2 large pools, pickle ball courts, mini golf and a lot of activities
daily. The park also has bingo on Mondays and Wednesdays and on Tuesdays they
set up a farmers market with local fruits and vegetables, very cool. On the
first weekend in Orlando we rented a car for the weekend through Enterprise rent
a car, $10.00 a day weekend rate and they even came here and picked me up. On
Saturday night we drove to “Old town” Old town has a classic car show on
Friday and Saturday nights, we spent the night walking around looking at
classic cars and at 8:00 they cruise up and down the main street. It is a lot of free fun that we would recommend
to anyone going to Orlando to attend. We
also drove to Downtown Disney and walked around, Downtown Disney was free and
ok but kind of a tourist trap.
Lauderdale to get to South Beach. South Beach is such a cool place that we had
been to before on a cruise ship. Next stop is Blue Water Key for 5 days. We
arrived at Blue Water Key RV resort and were blown away. This is the nicest
place we have ever stayed at. We have our own Tiki Hut and private dock on the
ocean. There was a great place to eat
right down the road from Blue Water Key “Kaya Eats” they have a great Happy
hour and wonderful food, get the wings. We would have stayed at the Blue Water

On Christmas Day we went deep sea fishing what a great way to celebrate Christmas. Every day at sunset most everybody heads to Mallory Square to watch the sunset and the many street performers. We found some great restaurants in Key West with the best happy hours, if you stay in Key west look for the A & B Lobster House, on the docks below the A & B Lobster House are 3 or 4 restaurants that have ½ off their menus from 4 – 6 every day, best deal in Key West. Back to Orlando Thousand Trails for New Year’s
eve. On our last visit here we had met a
couple from Canada and looked forward to seeing them again. The park had a New
Year’s Eve party with a band and snacks. We took our first road trip in the
“new old car” we drove to Daytona Beach to drive on the beach, what a cool
experience. We also visited the Daytona 500 racetrack, we will be in Florida on February 24th for the
Daytona 500 so we decided to buy tickets to the race. This will be the first
Nascar race we have ever been too, we attended the Indy 500 a few years ago and
loved it. We went to Universal Studios “City walk” while in Orlando this time
and had a blast. This place is way better than Downtown Disney and would
recommend this place if you like to have adult fun. They have many, many night clubs including a Karaoke bar "Rising Star" that has a
live band with back-up singers and the place rocks, also a Pat Obrien’s with a

on to our next destination, TT Peace River in Wauchula Florida. The park is
southwest of Orlando near Tampa with a small town country feeling. We really
liked this park, the pool and hot tub were smaller than those at Orlando but
they were nice, newer and clean. We drove the “new old car” to Tampa, Fort
Myers, Captiva and Sanibel Island while we were in Wauchula. We liked the
peaceful easy feeling this park has, but we never got to see any alligators or
even a snake like people were saying this park had.
honestly feel somewhat at home when we come to this park. The people are very
nice, the pools are always warm and the place is always neat and clean. With so
many restaurants and attractions in the area there is always something to do.
Being the area has so much to do if you plan accordingly Orlando can be a cheap
place to stay. Most restaurants have a happy hour and daily specials and if
you hit them at the right time (4-6) food and drinks can be quite reasonable
($3.00 appetizers & $1.00 beers)
We left Minot, North Dakota on Thursday October 26th and spent 4 days with family in Minneapolis…it sure was great seeing everyone but was hard to say goodbye. Thanks Ed & Missy...
We stayed at a couple of places on the way to Texas; our 1st stop being Des Moines, Iowa. We stayed at a Passport America campground (Cutty’s Campground)…. it was a nice place! The bathrooms were all closed because of the cold weather, low 30’s at night and 50’s during the day. It also had an indoor pool that we didn’t get a chance to use

Our next stop was supposed to be a PA (Passport America) in Grantville, Kansas. The campground was about 10 miles off I-35 with a dirt road that was 1-1/4 miles long. If we have learned anything it’s “don’t drive on dirt roads”! Everything in the basement storage compartments were covered with a layer of dust. We pulled in and the camp host was followed by a dozen or so cats, she pointed out the last full hook up site that was available. We drove around to look at the sites (cats followed us) and realized
this place wasn’t for us, the camper on one side had garbage stacked to the top of the camper. We drove back by the office and told the host that we needed to go to the store and we would be right back, we never looked back. We decided to keep driving until we found a casino or something.

We decided to keep driving and ended up at a casino in Kansas (Kansas Star). We like to use casino’s vs. truck stops or Wal-Mart parking lot. We can justify the money we spend in the casino as the money we would have spent had we stayed at an RV park and it’s fun cheap entertainment. Casino’s usually have live entertainment, free soda and cheap food; we only spend around $20 unless we decide to have a couple cocktails.
The next stop was a Thousand Trails preserve in Lake Whitney, Texas just south of Dallas. It was our first Thousand trails campground. It was a nice campground, the bathrooms were nice and clean. We only stayed one night and didn’t have much time to explore.

Thousand Trails (TT) is a membership camping resort system that we joined this last summer, we purchased a membership from a couple that was getting out of full timing. We purchased their membership they had paid nearly $10,000 for in the 80’s. We paid $250 + the transfer fee of $450. We can stay free for 50 nights a year at any one of the 53 preserves (they call them preserves) for our dues of $50 monthly. Or we can opt for the unlimited nights for $100 per month. The other membership we have is Passport America (PA). The membership fee was $44 per year and it gives us 50% off campground fees on thousands of campgrounds that are everywhere.

We spent 2 weeks at our second Thousand Trails campground “Medina Lake” in Lake Hills Texas, 30 miles west of San Antonio. The campground was nice, with a lot of deer, nice pool and hot tub.
On Friday (11/16) we headed to a Thousand Trails preserve “Colorado River” in Columbus Texas. It was a nice clean open park right on the Colorado river. The park had a dozen or so pecan trees and they were ready for harvesting. Laurie and I filled up a couple of bags of nuts; they were awesome. We only stayed here 3 nights.

Our next stop was a campground resort (French Quarter RV Resort) in the French Quarter of New Orleans, its only 2 blocks from the French Quarter. This is where we spent Thanksgiving this year. We have been having a great time exploring New Orleans, the French Quarter, Bourbon street and trying all kinds of interesting food and drinks. The city has an amazing amount of culture and all of the people are very friendly.

Laurie in New Orleans

We have moved on to a different resort after only spending 3 nights at the French Quarter RV Resort, the $79.00 per night was a little steep. The resort we moved to (Ponchatrain Landing) has a shuttle that takes you into the French Quarter and back 3 times a day and is also a very nice place on the shores of Lake Ponchatrain. We are staying here 5 nights then we will have 3 days to get from here to our next destination in Orlando Florida for 2 weeks.

By the way we have Pensacola & Orlando Florida, Miami Beach and Key West all coming up in the month of December. We will try to post more often so keep checking back on our progress.

We were looking primarily for a diesel rig but we decided to keep all of our options on the table when all the diesel coaches we looked at in our price range were either too small or too old. It feels weird calling it a coach when our entire life we’ve always called them motorhomes or RVs. We have learned a lot about RVs in the last couple of months. It's obvious some people have much different ideas of "clean and in great shape" then we do. This RV (I guess I should start calling it a coach) was the cleanest of all we looked at. Check it out. It's BEAUTIFUL !!

The time you spend looking for a coach is a lot like the time you spend looking for a sticks and bricks house. We traveled all over Minnesota and invested a lot of time. The slideouts on the coaches we looked at varied a lot. The slideouts on the diesel coaches seemed smaller than the slideouts on the gas units. The small slideouts seemed stupid; the larger slideout are great! 2 slides are definitely better than 1.!! The diesel coaches got better mileage, but within our price range we were able to purchase a newer gas coach with a lot more options, and 2 slideouts vs only 1 on most of diesels.

The condition of the tires was a pretty big deal considering a new set of tires is about $3,000. A lot of the coaches we looked at needed tires; it was nice to find a unit with new tires. The owner we bought this unit from was a professional truck driver and kept everything in tip top shape. They owned it since it was 2 years old and have always had an extended warranty on it and as a added bonus the warranty is still valid until September 1st of this year!!! The warranty covers almost everything. In addition, the previous owner had it painted in December 2010, knowing he would never recoup the money he put into having it painted, but still wanted to paint the coach and was able to afford it so he just got it done. I think it was because his brother had a newer coach and they traveled together a lot and he wanted his coach to look as nice as his brothers coach .

A newer coach would be great but it’s not our intention to go into debt or to spend all kinds of money on our coach. We have been looking mostly at diesel motor homes for the fuel economy and power.

<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt;">For Full Time RVing we feel this is the best fit for us. Below is a list of the reasons why.

Budget - We want the best we can afford within our budget. Our budget is no more than $40,000. At first we were hoping for a coach newer than a 98 or 99 but after looking at newer ones we soon discovered we need to make a choice, diesel vs. gas. If we choose gas we could get a unit 4-5 years newer than if we choose a diesel. Given our budget that put us in the 2002 to 2004 range for a gas model vs.1998 or 1999 in a diesel model. With some luck maybe we’ll find a newer diesel in great shape within our budget.

<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt;">

Fuel Economy - We want a motor home with the best fuel economy we can get within the Class A field. We are going to try and stick with the diesel engine. Diesel has far more power than a gasoline powered engine and gets nearly twice the miles per gallon (mpg). From our experience, our last motor home (gas powered Class A 33 foot) averaged 6 mpg and the diesel models that we have been looking at average 10-12 mpg. Granted diesel fuel is higher in price but the
added mpg is a no brainer.

<span style="color: black; font-family: "Arial", "sans-serif";">Sadness, fear, and uncertainty are some of the emotions we have felt in planning our full time RVing adventure. The emotions are not so much sadness, but fear and uncertainty. What are we doing? Are we crazy? Second thoughts creep in every couple of days, what if this is a mistake?
<span style="color: black; font-family: "Arial", "sans-serif"; font-size: 16pt;">Selling Our Home

Wasn't it our goal in life to buy a house, fix it up (the way we wanted) and live in it until we die? Why in the world would we give up our beautiful house after all the work we have done to it, and all those years of memories. What are we doing? We need to remember all of those memories we have cannot be taken away or forgotten, it is still just a house and our family made it a home. <span style="font-family: "Arial", "sans-serif";">

<span style="color: black; font-family: "Arial", "sans-serif";"><span style="color: black; font-family: "Arial", "sans-serif"; font-size: 14pt;">

Fear sets in that selling our house during this economy isn’t the smartest thing to do. I believe we have overcome this fear a little bit by holding off on selling our house for as long as we can. We think the economy might improve enough that we will be ok. Our neighbor passed away a while ago and her house has been for sale for 5 months and there doesn’t seem to be much action on it. Her house has never been updated, it is a very nice house but it’s like going back in time when you go inside the house. Nevertheless it’s a good house for a couple just starting out. This scares us to death, if the housing market doesn’t improve we are going to be in some serious trouble.

We have always counted on the equity in our home and have seen a huge drop in our home value, we can’t just give it away. As I’m writing this post I was surprised, someone bought her house and was moving in this weekend. It is so nice to see, maybe we will be ok. Will we ever get over the pain of selling our home? There is some good news, from what I have heard the emotions will fade, yet the emotions are real nevertheless and shouldn’t be dismissed.

You have to be very selective about what you can take along with you as there isn’t much room in an RV and space is limited. As you are dividing your stuff into piles knowing you will never see it again, emotions can be high. When Laurie sold her Monte Carlo (she called it her baby) and the buyer drove away in “her baby” she was very sad, I could tell reality was setting in and that she was having some second thoughts . She owned her car for the last 12 years and she was very sad to see it go. It’s almost like we have died but “we” have to get rid of all the stuff, as if we are the executors to our own estate. I can understand how this would be a terrible undertaking for children when their parents pass away. At least we know our kids won’t have to go through all of this stuff when we die, that’s somewhat liberating.<span style="color: black; font-family: "Arial", "sans-serif"; font-size: 14pt;">
The feelings about leaving friends and family has depended largely on how close we are with each individual person, of course the kids are number one, two and three on the list. Leaving the kids really makes us have second thoughts about our decision. We have always had a very close relationship with all of the kids and not seeing them as often will surely be the hardest adjustment. With Alex (23) and on his own and doing well. Alex has always been a very independent kid and not seeing us as often will be ok. Brandon (19) who is just starting out and seems to want to spend more time with his friend than with us anyway. Brienna (16) who lives with her mother, will be going to college after graduating next fall and being the youngest will probably have the most adjusting to do. <span style="font-family: "Arial", "sans-serif";">

In fact, when we are full timing we may have more time to stay in touch with our friends and family than we do now, and the conversations may even be more meaningful, of course the physical interactions will be less frequent.
The ones that are upset often cannot see the benefits of the full time RVing lifestyle because they cannot imagine a lifestyle different than their own. We need to stay focused on why you are going to full time Rving. Not being able to leave friends and family is probably the number one reason more people do not try full time RVing.
Or the night we have our last neighborhood bonfire, or seeing the local people that have serviced our vehicles and delivered our mail for the last time. It is a strange feeling knowing the people and places we’ve taken for granted will not be around anymore. The feelings are probably normal but we never really considered how deeply we were entrenched in our community.

I’m sure these emotions will fade once we meet new full time RVing people, and maybe because these emotions fade away is why people don't speak that much about the emotional aspects of full time RVing. Maybe these emotions are so easily forgotten that they seem insignificant, but at this time these emotions are real nevertheless. <span style="color: black; font-family: "Arial", "sans-serif"; font-size: 14pt;">

The economy we live in today is filled with so much more doubt and fear of the future than in the past. Even as fuel prices keep going up every day, today’s economy will not keep us from following our dreams.

<span style="font-family: "Arial", "sans-serif"; font-size: 14pt;">People think this is an expensive lifestyle, and it can be if you travel constantly, stay in all the best resorts, and eat out all the time. How much we will spend on fuel depends on how many miles we expect to travel each year and how long we expect to stay at each stop. What you might find surprising is we will probably spend less a year than we do now and our fuel expenses could very easily go down.

<span style="font-family: "Arial", "sans-serif"; font-size: 14pt;">I myself drive on an average of 2000 miles a month. So with the pickup truck I drive daily that’s around 150 gallons of fuel a month, with fuel prices at $3.75 a gallon that’s $562 a month. So with the Rv, let's assume we get 10 miles per gallon and we want to travel 1,000 miles per month. That would take 100 gallons at $4.00 per gallon totaling $400 or if fuel goes to $5.00 per gallon the total will be $500, its still cheaper than the $562 we spend now. I used $4.00 a gallon because we are more likely going to be driving a diesel powered Rv.

<span style="font-family: "Arial", "sans-serif"; font-size: 14pt;">If we decided to workamp (we have agreed we will not be workamping in our first year) we would easily use a lot less fuel as we would be staying in one location for a longer period of time.
Jeff and Lauriehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05436946637658887788noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4522220802838619083.post-71886224888298878802011-03-19T12:50:00.009-05:002011-04-23T10:51:49.001-05:00Obstacles & Budget
<span style="font-family: "Arial", "sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt;"><span style="font-family: "Arial", "sans-serif"; font-size: 14pt;">Full Time RVing Obstacles
<span style="font-family: "Arial", "sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt;"><span style="font-family: "Arial", "sans-serif"; font-size: 14pt;"><span style="font-family: "Arial", "sans-serif"; font-size: 14pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Arial", "sans-serif"; font-size: 14pt;">We believe most people never pursue their dreams because they are trapped in a vicious cycle of living beyond their means. Why do we need to have the latest electronic gadgets, the big house, the nice car, and all of the other crap we really don’t need? So many people are living from check to check and are just one unexpected event away from losing everything. Just one unexpected illness, injury or accident could leave most people with nothing. It’s hard to admit but we are probably one of those people, as are 80-90 percent of people in today’s economy. We all get caught up in the day to day grind.<span lang="EN" style="font-family: "Arial", "sans-serif"; font-size: 14pt; mso-ansi-language: EN;">a free campsite, usually with utilities included and some additional wages.<span style="font-family: "Arial", "sans-serif"; font-size: 14pt;">

<span style="font-family: "Arial", "sans-serif"; font-size: 14pt;">We think it’s time for us to be in control of our lives and have the opportunity to pursue our dreams. We need to get in a position that allows us to live more simply, with less stress and to be able to concentrate on the important things in life, the things that really matter. Wouldn't it be liberating to have no debt and to be able to pay cash for everything and to not be tied to a job you hate just to make payments.

First, we have to look at our current financial situation. Laurie and I have always had a budget and it has always worked very well. We have great credit as this is something we have worked very hard to obtain. It hasn't always been that way, with Laurie's prompt bill paying and somewhat obsessive budget regime we have worked hard to maintain a great credit score. We are not wealthy by any one's standards and we are not prepared to go on the road without a financial care in the world. We will be faced with financial decisions that will have an effect on the amount of time we spend traveling, boondocking and workamping. Boondocking and workamping are terms rvers use.

Boondocking definition; To camp in a
locations without power, sewer or water hook-ups, and almost always free.
Workamping definition; To exchanging skills for
<span style="font-family: "Arial", "sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Arial", "sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt;">

<span style="color: black; font-family: "Arial", "sans-serif"; font-size: 14pt;">Making a Full Time RVing budget<span style="font-family: "Arial", "sans-serif"; font-size: 14pt;">
<span style="color: black; font-family: "Arial", "sans-serif"; font-size: 14pt;">
We need to start with eliminating expenses that we will not have on the road.<span style="font-family: "Arial", "sans-serif"; font-size: 14pt;">
Our goal is to be left with necessities that we will have no matter what. We will be selling our house so we will no longer have a mortgage payment, real estate taxes, homeowners insurance, gas bill, electric bill, water and sewer bill, trash collecting bill, cable bill, land-line phone bill, Internet bill, home maintenance and repair expenses. Keep in mind we will need to replace some of these expenses in our full time Rving budget.

<span style="font-family: "Arial", "sans-serif"; font-size: 14pt;">Here is a how the items break down in our budget<span style="font-family: "Arial", "sans-serif"; font-size: 14pt;">.
The furniture and all of our personal belongings will have to go. We are not even considering a storage unit. We need to figure out what they are worth or what we will be able to sell them for. We are going to search the Internet to come up with some ideas of what all the things are worth. We have already figured out this chore of liquidating everything will be a huge job. We plan to have a huge garage sale this summer, and another one the following summer. The preparation will be a ton of work, but there really is no other way to do this. I suspect we will be giving a lot of the things away to the kids and our family.
